On Thursday, January 26, CPES Outreach, staff, SCC, and KTHR Community Wellness Coordinator partnered together to host the 3rd annual Pajama Party in Celebration of Family Literacy Day which was celebrated across Canada on January 27. Families were encouraged to wear their pajama's and bring their favourite stories from home. The children were able to enjoy a Treasure Hunt where they had to find missing words to build a sentence. Other literacy activities were provided, including word finds, cooperative art, online stories and more. The SCC organized a book drive which turned out to be a great success. Drop off bins were set up at the school and around town and parents were able to sort through these books and take some new ones home to their family bookshelf. A presentation by staff was also done to families on our green bag program, to help parents feel comfortable with reading strategies and how to create time for literacy in their homes. Families were also provided with a nutritious snack and had a chance to win gift cards from Chapters. Thank you to all the families that attended and to the Nipawin Hawks for volunteering at this event. A reading challenge was also held during the week between grades one through three students. In total, Central Park students read over 2000 books or chapters!!!
